Our member company SIDENOR FORGINGS & CASTINGS has broken yet another record. At the Reinosa factory, the foundry has managed to cast the largest steel component in its more than 100 years of history, which, on the other hand, with its 166 tonnes, ranks as the largest steel cast part manufactured in Spain.
The component is part of a 16,000-tonne press, which will become one of the largest mechanical systems of its kind in the world dedicated to manufacturing automotive parts, complex machinery, engineering components and crankshafts. It is a new design that will be four times more powerful than the previous 4,000-tonne press produced and designed by the client.
In order to carry out the project, the foundry team of SIDENOR FORGINGS & CASTINGS had to innovate by creating a series of new procedures and technologies, since it was a part that exceeded the current weight limit of the company (140 tonnes), especially involving a team of 10 multidisciplinary professionals throughout the process. 256 tons of liquid steel were required to manufacture this outstanding part, and it took 10 months of planning and manufacture begore it was successfully shipped to the customer.
From FUNDIGEX we want to congratulate our member company, SIDENOR FORGINGS & CASTINGS, and Borja Lambe Vaz, who currently holds the position of President of our Association. It is a historical record for the company and in almost all probability for the foundry at a national level, which highlights once again the high technological level of our sector, a sector with a clear tendency to continuous improvement, to the use of digital resources that lead to an improvement in production, aligning with sustainability and the circular economy. Congratulations SIDENOR FORGINGS & CASTINGS!
